School has started. Summer is all but finished. What are you doing on Sunday nights?
We have some fun stuff on the calendar for the next several nights. On August 21, our children will be presenting their musical. The Drama Team will be doing their dessert theater on August 28. Then on September 4, we will all gather at Frozen Head State Park for our end-of-the-summer picnic.
We have also started a new Bible study series on Sunday evenings at 5:00. Our topic is “Parables: The Stories Jesus Told and Why He Told Them.” We are exploring the message and the purpose of one of Jesus’ favorite methods of teaching.
The parables of Jesus lead us into the Kingdom of God. They meet us where we are. Using ideas and elements that are familiar, they invite us to a new understanding of values and relationships. They invite us into the God movement.
Through His parables, Jesus calls us to a new way of being, a new kind of existence. This new existence is what the gospels are all about. The very possibility of something new is liberating. Jesus uses His parables not only to uncover the new thing that God is doing in Christ, but to also describe how that new thing refashions our whole way of living.
Come join us as we study God’s Word on Sunday evening.
Joy and peace, Ed
